KFL9036 – Power, Knowledge, and Materialism: Working with the foundations of Institutional Ethnography (IE)

Oslo | til |

At its core, Institutional Ethnography (IE) (Smith 1986; Smith 1990; Smith 2005) is posing a radical critique of sociology as an objectifying form of knowledge. It insists on grounding the exploration of ruling relations in everyday life and experience.

This PhD course and workshop offers an opportunity to engage with key ideas that form the basis of that critique and to reflect on how to mobilize them in their own work.

This course is organized by the Centre for Gender Research at the Univeristy of Oslo. Applications are due by February 1 2026.
